FREE Tip Tuesday - Where do I need to start?

WHERE DO I BEGIN???

There are several places you can get coupons - your Sunday newspaper (I recommend the Louisville Courier Journal, you can go here to find a list of all the stores in this area that carry the Louisville Courier Journal), ALL YOU Magazine, printable coupons, coupons from emails, facebook, and free samples.

You need to decide if you want to use all these sources, or just one or two to begin with - I personally recommend starting slow, so that you don't get overwhelmed.  I would recommend your Sunday newspaper and printable coupons.  Once you decide which places you are going to get your coupons from, you need to continue to get these coupons every week, month, or whatever interval they come.  You must be faithful in gathering and clipping your coupons.

There are three (3) different types of Sunday Coupon Inserts, RedPlum (RP), SmartSource (SS), and Proctor and Gamble (P&G).  Normally, a good rule of thumb is to get two two (2) papers per family member..since I have 3 in my family, I get 6 papers every Sunday.  You can preview what coupons may/may not be in the Sunday paper each Wednesday on the facebook group Mayfield Steals & Deals…Local Coupon Community, or I also post in on this blog.

All coupon inserts vary by regions in the county, so we may or may not get the coupons listed in the preview, or we may get a higher/lower value coupon than is listed in the preview. I have generally found that the coupons in the Louisville Courier Journal are pretty good coupons, and they don't vary much from the previews.

There are LOTS of printable coupons available.  Normally, you can print each printable coupon twice, and they are usually good for 30 days.  When you print your coupons, search different zip codes, as with coupon inserts, printable coupons also vary by region.  Remember to hit your browsers "back" button to print each coupon twice, that is your limit per month.  Coupons normally "reload" at the beginning of each month, and only have a set number of "prints" available, so you want to print your coupons at the beginning of each month, so they don't run out of prints before you get yours.  The top places to print your coupons are coupons.com, smartsource.com, redplum.com, and couponnetwork.com.  You can click this link to be taken to those websites.

There are also printable coupons called "bricks" coupons, these are special coupons that companies will offer for a limited number of prints, these are usually higher value coupons.  You can also print these coupons twice, by simply hitting your browsers back button.  There is no way to search for these, they are just offers from companies, lots of times you find these on the company's facebook page.  These types of coupons typically go fast, so when you find a high value printable coupon, print it quickly.

There is a magazine called "All You".  You can subscribe to this magazine or buy it at your local Wal-Mart.  I buy 6 magazines per month.  You can look inside the magazine cover to find what coupons are in that month's issue.  They also have a website where you can get exclusive printable coupons.  Sometimes, I've noticed that the coupons that are in the subscription ALL You are different from the ones you purchase at Wal-Mart.

Remember, your not going to save $1000.00 your first week, it takes time, so, follow my tips, and don't give up!  You will get the hang of it, and will start saving your family thousands of dollars....along with donating to others in need.

Make Money Monday

Today's topic on Make Money Monday is about Mail in Rebates.

There are lots of great ways to make a little extra money here and there, and to me, every little bit helps.  I am always on the lookout for mail in rebates.  These are, simply, rebates from companies for various reasons, maybe they want you to try their product, or, they are promoting a new item.  These are great ways for you to get your money back on purchasing items.  Here is my favorite website to find printable rebate forms.

One rule I always use, I NEVER buy something just to get the rebate.  I keep all my receipts, and am constantly on the lookout for rebates.  If I see a rebate available for something I have already purchased, then I print the form and mail in the required information.  It does not profit if you have to buy something just to get the rebate.

There is a new type of rebate I just learned about this year, it's called "No Beer Purchase Required" rebates.  Have you seen those little rebate forms in your local grocery store hanging around the liquor items?  Well, I never paid any attention to those...I sure wish I had!!!  In Kentucky, we are not required to purchase the beer or alcohol to receive the rebates!!!!  How awesome is that?  So, when the rebate says...for example..."Purchase a case of Acme Pretend Beer and 2 cases of water and receive $10.00 back" - for Kentucky, all you would have to purchase to be eligible for this rebate would be the cases of water!!!  I have been researching these types of rebates, and have discovered that they are mostly for alcohol and items we already purchase on a normal grocery shopping trip!  I have personally sent in about $150.00 in these types of rebates this year, and have had no problems so far...I am tickled pink!!!!  What you do have to watch for is the dates of the items of the rebates, make sure you purchase the items within the time period specified, and send in your required information by the time specified.  These offers tend to have offer numbers, and I have also noticed there there may be 3 or 4 of the same offer, but with different offer numbers...you can submit for all the offers, as long as they have different offer numbers!!!  You do normally have to have the original cash register receipt...so, if I think that I am purchasing more than one item that might qualify for a rebate, I ask the cashier to print two receipts before I start checking out, and then I remind him/her before I pay that I need two receipts.

I find my NBPR "No Beer Purchase Required" rebates mostly on ebay...I just search "NBPR rebates" and it pulls up all the auctions listed with that in the subject line.  Then, I just read in the descriptions to see if I have already submitted those rebates, and if it lists my state as a participating state.  Some offers are not available in all states.  I also keep a spreadsheet of all rebates I've submitted for, along with the offer number so I won't try to submit for the same offer twice.  I also try to submit only a few rebates at a time, normally on Mondays, so that way, each Monday I have a couple rebates going out, and hopefully that means I have a few coming in every week.

When I get my checks from my rebates, I cash them, and that is the money I use to spend at Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General, etc.  This helps me keep my money for other things.

Why not submit a couple rebates and see how it goes?
