Hello!
My name is Jennifer Smith - my hope is to teach you to shop smartly with coupons, in order to save your hard earned money for more important things in life.
I am a single mother of two teenage boys, ages 14 and 12 (soon to be 13). I live on a very tight budget, and until recently, didn't even know where to get coupons.
As a single mother, I struggle with being able to provide the things that my boys want, along with the things they need. God blessed me with a wonderful set of parents, who have helped me in more ways than I realized, both financially and emotionally.
In January 2010, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He decided the best treatment option for him was to have proton radiation treatment. The bad side to this treatment was that it was in Jacksonville, Florida, and we live in Sedalia, Kentucky. The program for this treatment lasted about 8 weeks, or 40 treatments. My mother and father would have to live in Florida for at least 8 weeks, or until my father received his 40 treatments.
From January 2010 until April 2010, my family and I prepared for my mother and father to be gone. We made arrangements for my boys to have rides to and from basketball practice, orthodontist appointments, basketball games, and where ever else they needed to go. We made arrangements for all basketball camp fees, church camp fees, summer league dues, and any other fees we could think of were paid for, before my parents left. What I didn't think of, was all the extra little money that my parents help me out with here and there, such as $10 to send with the boys when they go to a friends house, or money to use when we had a basketball tournament all weekend.
Since my parents were already in Florida, I didn't want to bother my parents with my financial struggles, I wanted to become a financially responsible adult, so that my father would have no worries while he was getting treated for his cancer. That's when I realized that I could save a ton of money by using coupons.
I bought my first Sunday paper on the first Sunday of May 2010, and began learning then. I started reading blogs and printing out lists and scenarios from these blogs. I still have a LOT to learn, however, my parents are so proud of me, and are amazed at how much money I am saving while shopping.
I am by no means an expert at using coupons, I still read blogs every day, and print out lists. I am just an ordinary mother of two teenage boys, trying to get the most for my hard earned dollar. And hopefully, in the process, I can help others save money while providing the things their families need.
All that being said, each and every day I pray that God show me His will for me. I pray for others to see Him in me. I pray that He give me the strength and wisdom to do what it is He is telling me to do. This blog is a result of lots of prayer, and it is for His Glory. I pray that His will be done through this blog.
